The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced that the suspended 2025/2026 recruitment exercise in the Greater Accra Region will resume on Thursday, 20 November 2025.
According to the statement, “all Greater Accra potential recruits are hereby informed that the Ghana Armed Forces 2025/2026 recruitment exercise resumes on Thursday, 20 November 2025.”
The exercise was suspended after a tragic incident that resulted in injuries and deaths. As part of new measures to ensure safety and order, the screening will now be conducted across eight sub-centres in five main locations. These are El-Wak Stadium (2 centres), Nicholson Park in Burma Camp (2 centres), Air Force Base in Burma Camp, TRADOC in Teshie (2 centres), and the Eastern Naval Command in Tema.
To reduce congestion and improve coordination, GAF says “all qualified applicants in batches of 600 persons, will each receive an SMS specifying their reporting dates, batches and designated centres.” Applicants who do not receive a text message by the reporting date are advised to call the official helplines for assistance. They may also check the recruitment portal for updates. Families and friends have been cautioned not to accompany applicants, with GAF stating clearly that “non-applicants will not be allowed entry to any of the centres.”
Meanwhile, the Board of Inquiry set up to investigate the causes of the stampede is still ongoing. To ensure fairness in the process, the entire Greater Accra Recruitment Team has been replaced. New officers taking over include Commodore F.A. Nyarko as Director General of Human Resources, Colonel F. Kusi-Darko as Director of Manpower, and Colonel G.B. Eduah as Director of Information Technology. GAF has assured the public that “anyone found culpable by the Inquiry will be sanctioned accordingly.”
The Armed Forces expressed regret over the unfortunate incident and extended sympathy to the affected families. “The Ghana Armed Forces regrets the unfortunate incident, and extends its deepest sympathies to the bereaved families,” the statement said. Injured applicants will continue to receive free medical care at the 37 Military Hospital until they fully recover. A special recruitment package will also be offered to the injured after recovery and to the bereaved families.
GAF concluded by calling for the cooperation of the general public as the recruitment exercise resumes under the revised arrangements.
