GFA Names Carlos Queiroz Black Stars Coach

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has appointed Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The announcement was made on Monday, April 13, as the FA moves to strengthen the team for the global tournament.

In a brief statement, the GFA said: “The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association, working with all key stakeholders, has appointed Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars.”

Queiroz is one of the most experienced coaches in international football, having managed Real Madrid, worked with Manchester United, and led national teams including Portugal and Iran.

He has also coached Egypt, Oman, Japan, and Qatar, and brings significant World Cup experience, having been involved in multiple tournaments.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be held in Canada, Mexico, and the United States, starting June 11.

Ghana will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before facing England and Croatia in its remaining group matches.
