The National Celebrations Planning Committee (NCPC) has announced a series of activities to commemorate Ghana’s 68th Independence Anniversary. A statement released by from the Presidency on Sunday, February 23, 2025, outlined key events, including a commemoration of the 28th February Crossroad Shooting Incident, a nationwide quiz and debate competition, and a ceremonial parade at the Presidency.
The statement, signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, detailed that the activities will begin on February 28, 2025, with a wreath-laying ceremony at Nationalism Park. This event will honor the three ex-servicemen who were shot in 1948, a pivotal moment in Ghana’s independence struggle.
To increase public participation, the NCPC’s Communications Subcommittee will roll out educational content on television, radio, and social media. Additionally, discussions on the evolution of civil protests in Ghana will be hosted to engage citizens, particularly the youth, in learning about the country’s history.
The celebrations will also feature the President’s School Children Awards on March 5 and a ceremonial parade at the forecourt of the Presidency on March 6. The government has urged the media, bloggers, and the public to actively participate in sharing these historic moments
