Majority Caucus Calls for Annulment of Ayawaso East Parliamentary Primaries over Vote-Buying Allegations

The Majority Caucus in Parliament has called for the immediate cancellation of the NDC parliamentary primaries held in the Ayawaso East Constituency, following allegations of vote buying during the exercise.

In a press release dated February 8, the caucus said it had taken note of “widely circulated allegations of vote buying” surrounding the just-concluded primaries in the Ayawaso East Constituency in the Greater Accra Region.

The caucus strongly condemned the alleged conduct, describing it as inconsistent with the party’s stated commitment to political renewal and ethical leadership.

“The Caucus wishes to strongly condemn these developments against the background of the agenda to reset the politics of this country,” the statement said.

According to the press release, the decision followed extensive deliberations by both the core and extended leadership of the Majority Caucus. The caucus resolved to formally communicate its position to the NDC Functional Executive Committee (FEC).

Among the key resolutions outlined below in the statement is a call to annul the primaries held in the constituency.

“That the primary of the NDC organised in the Ayawaso East Constituency be annulled immediately,” the caucus stated.

In addition, the Majority Caucus is demanding strict sanctions against any individuals found culpable after investigations into the allegations.

“That any candidate who participated in the said primary and has been established to have engaged in this unethical conduct be banned from participating in the subsequent primary after annulment of the election,” the statement added.

The caucus emphasised that its position is driven by the need to protect the integrity of the party’s internal democratic processes and to send a clear signal against electoral malpractice.

“The NDC Majority Caucus remains committed to restoring integrity to our politics,” the press release concluded.
