Hon Afenyo-Markin Blasts Judge Over Abronye DC’s Remand, Says “That judge has no respect for his own judicial oath’’

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has launched a fierce attack on a Circuit Court judge over the continued remand of Bono Regional NPP Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, May 17, 2026, the Effutu MP accused the judge of abandoning the law and acting beyond his judicial mandate in the handling of the case.

“That judge has no respect for his own judicial oath. I don’t think he read the law,” Afenyo-Markin declared.

The outspoken lawmaker expressed outrage over the judge’s decision to remand Abronye DC into custody until the final determination of the case, insisting the ruling was unjustified and politically motivated.

“For a judge to say that he’s remanding Abronye into BNI custody until the case is finally determined, such a judge can never have my respect,” he said.

Afenyo-Markin further dared the judge to cite him for contempt, maintaining that he would continue to criticise the court if, in his view, the law was not being upheld.

“I pray that he summons me for contempt. I will continue to disrespect him until he upholds the law,” he stated.

The Minority Leader also questioned the competence of the judge, claiming the judicial officer had repeatedly acted outside the confines of the law.

“He’s gone beyond his judicial function, and it is not his first. It’s as if he has been selected purposely to achieve this. He doesn’t talk law. I don’t know whether he ever passed his law exam. It’s a shame,” he added.

Afenyo-Markin went on to call on Chief Justice Baffoe Bonnie to take an interest in the matter, warning that such decisions could damage the image and legacy of the judiciary.

According to him, the justification that Abronye DC could “talk again” if granted bail was unacceptable and dangerous for Ghana’s democracy.

“Is that the reset where a judge will say he is remanding an accused because if he allows him to go home, if he grants him bail, he is likely to talk again? So you should remain in custody?” he questioned.
