The Ministry of the Interior has, with immediate effect, suspended the operating licence of Kantanka Security Services Limited following allegations that its personnel used unauthorised uniforms and unlawfully possessed and used firearms and ammunition during a security operation in Accra.
The incident occurred on Sunday, June 21, 2026, in Kwabenya, where personnel from the private security firm were allegedly engaged in activities that raised serious regulatory and public safety concerns.
In a press statement signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Ministry said preliminary findings pointed to possible breaches of the Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1571), which govern the operations of private security companies in Ghana.
According to the Ministry, “the usage of unprescribed uniforms, unauthorised possession and use of firearms and ammunition as well as security accoutrements by private security personnel constitutes a serious breach with significant implications for public safety and security.”
Following the findings, the Ministry said it had taken the decision to suspend the company’s licence and ordered an immediate halt to all operations.
“Consequently, the company is directed to immediately cease all operations forthwith pending the conclusion of investigations into the matter,” the statement added.
The Ministry also directed all institutions and individuals to suspend any form of business dealings with Kantanka Security Services Limited until investigations are completed and further instructions are issued.
Additionally, the company has been instructed to fully cooperate with the Ghana Police Service and provide all relevant information to assist in ongoing investigations.
The Interior Ministry assured the public that the suspension is purely an administrative step aimed at safeguarding public safety while due process is followed.
It further indicated that appropriate action will be taken at the end of investigations in line with Ghana’s security and regulatory laws governing private security operations.
