Kwabena Adu-Boahene Breaks Silence from EOCO Custody: “Angela and I Did Not Steal a Pesewa”

From behind the closed walls of EOCO custody, former National Security Bureau (NSB) boss, Kwabena Adu-Boahene has finally broken his silence, offering not just a strong defense of his integrity, but also a sobering warning about looming risks to national security.

In a handwritten letter addressed to a top government official, Adu-Boahene pulls no punches. He opens by acknowledging the difficult circumstances but wastes no time in distancing himself and his wife from the allegations of embezzlement. “Angela and I would never steal public funds,” he writes. “What is being portrayed by the Attorney-General is wicked and deliberate.”

He raises a crucial question that cuts to the heart of the accusations: “How does one steal public funds in the manner being described without being flagged by the Auditor-General?”According to Adu-Boahene, the charges not only lack merit, but they also defy basic checks and balances built into the system.

The letter, however, goes beyond personal defense. In a striking revelation, Adu-Boahene warns that continued pressure from EOCO interrogators could compromise classified information related to national security and intelligence operations. “I have tried to withhold classified information,” he states. “But we now run the risk of public disclosure of critical

Between 2020 and 2024, the National Security Bureau (NSB) undertook several key operations aimed at strengthening Ghana’s internal security and stability. A recent summary of expenditures reveals how significant financial resources were allocated to specialized missions and legislative processes essential to national safety.

The largest allocation, totaling GH₵9.54 million, was made in 2020 to support Special Operations under codenames such as Taurus, Scorpion, Essien 1 & 2, and Hive. These funds were directed as a part-payment toward advanced cyber and electronic surveillance solutions, with ISC Holdings identified as the recipient contractor. This investment was critical in enhancing surveillance infrastructure to monitor and counter high-risk threats. operations expenditure items.”

That statement alone could trigger alarm bells in both government and security circles.

Perhaps the most damning accusation in the letter is directed at EOCO Director Raymond Archer, whom Adu-Boahene accuses of distorting facts and sensationalizing the case to paint a picture that could harm both the government and national security. “He is causing unnecessary sensation that could embarrass the state,” he warns.

Despite his circumstances, Adu-Boahene remains defiant and deeply rooted in his values. “We are content with the modest blessings God has given us,” he writes. “We would never take what does not belong to us, even if privately arranged.”

As the investigation continues, Adu-Boahene’s letter adds new weight to the conversation, raising tough questions not just about the case but about the systems, motivations, and potential consequences at play.
