President John Dramani Mahama has appointed interim ministers to assume their duties following the tragic death of two cabinet ministers in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6.
The Minister for Finance, Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, will now serve as Minister for Defence, while the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, has been asked to take on the role of Minister for Environment, Science and Technology until further notice.
This decision comes after the unfortunate passing of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed in a military helicopter crash en route to Obuasi.
In a statement signed by the Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, today, Thursday, August 7, the President expressed his condolences and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to stability during this difficult time.
“The President has made these temporary appointments to ensure continuity in governance while the nation mourns,” the statement said.
The interim appointments are expected to provide leadership and stability in the affected ministries as investigations into the crash continue.
