“Victory in 2028 Will Not Be Gifted to Us, It Must Be Earned” –  Dr Bawumia

The Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on party members to prioritise unity, discipline and hard work as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections.

Speaking at the National Thanksgiving Service held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) on Sunday, February 15, 2026, Dr Bawumia stressed that the party’s path to victory would require honesty, reconciliation and a renewed sense of purpose.

Addressing members and supporters, he acknowledged that internal healing remains critical after a competitive campaign season. According to him, true reconciliation must begin with self-reflection and openness.

“What is left of healing and uniting will come by acknowledging where each went too far, telling ourselves the truth and still choosing to walk together,” he said.

Dr Bawumia emphasised that unity cannot be achieved through silence or avoidance of difficult conversations. Instead, he urged members to speak openly about shared values and common goals.

“Healing will not come from silence; it will come from speaking up on what binds us together and working towards it,” he stated, adding that “as a family, we have more that binds us together than what we differ on.”

The NPP flagbearer further encouraged the party to focus more on shared aspirations rather than internal differences. “What we have to do is to deepen our concentration on what we have in common and put less emphasis on what we differ on,” he noted.

Looking ahead to the 2028 elections, Dr Bawumia cautioned party faithful against complacency, stressing that electoral success would require sustained grassroots effort.

“The road ahead will demand discipline, sacrifice and hard work,” he said. “Victory in 2028 will not be gifted to us; it must be earned  constituency by constituency, household by household, with humility and purpose.”
