Barker-Vormawor Apologizes to Appointments Committee Over Bribery Allegations

Social activist and legal practitioner, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has publicly apologized to the Appointments Committee over his recent social media post alleging that money was being exchanged for the approval of ministerial nominees.

Appearing before the committee on Wednesday, 29th January, Barker-Vormawor clarified that his post was misunderstood and that he did not intend to cast doubt on the integrity of the committee. He emphasized his respect for the body and the critical role it plays.

Clarification of Intent

Explaining his comments, he stated:

“When I made the post, I was referring to information I had received and to the recurring concerns that often emerge regarding this committee’s work. My intent was to encourage those reaching out to me privately to use appropriate channels to present their concerns.”

He further distanced himself from a separate post alleging bribery involving the National Democratic Congress (NDC) majority members on the committee. Barker-Vormawor attributed that claim to an account named “NPP Projects Bureau” on X (formerly Twitter), stating:

“I categorically disassociate myself from the comments attributed to me and from subsequent remarks suggesting that I accused specific committee members of corruption. That misinformation appeared under the name ‘NPP Projects Bureau’ on Facebook.”

Committee’s Response

Following his apology, the Appointments Committee advised Barker-Vormawor to delete his original post and issue a public disclaimer to clarify his stance on the matter.

This development highlights the need for caution in public discourse, particularly on sensitive issues concerning governance and accountability
