Cabinet Approves Visa-Free Access for Three New Countries

The Government of Ghana has approved new visa waiver agreements with Antigua and Barbuda, the Maldives, and Zambia to boost travel opportunities and strengthen diplomatic ties.

The announcement was made by Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Hon Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, on Wednesday, April 22, where he disclosed that the agreements are designed to simplify travel and deepen Ghana’s diplomatic engagements with the three countries.

The agreements will apply to all categories of passport holders, including ordinary, service, and diplomatic passports. Once fully implemented, citizens of Ghana and the three partner countries will be able to travel without a visa for up to 30 days per trip.

“Cabinet has granted approval for visa waiver agreements with Antigua and Barbuda, the Maldives and Zambia,” the Minister stated, adding that the initiative is expected to “ease travel between Ghana and the three countries.”

He further assured that the government remains committed to expanding such opportunities, noting, “We shall keep negotiating more visa waiver agreements as we add greater value to the Ghanaian passport, and at the same time enhance security protocols around acquiring Ghanaian passports.”

The agreements are expected to be presented to Parliament for ratification in the coming days before they take full effect.
