Accra Hearts of Oak have officially announced that their captain and first-choice goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare, has signed a new contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2027.
The 25-year-old shot-stopper, who joined the Ghanaian giants from Great Olympics in 2024, has chosen to remain with the Phobians despite reported interest from Moroccan powerhouse Raja Casablanca and three unnamed French clubs.
In a statement released on Thursday, April 10, the club confirmed:
“Asare, Captain of Hearts of Oak, signed the new two-year contract extension this morning following a fruitful discussion with the Board of Directors.”
Asare has enjoyed a meteoric rise over the past year, with a string of outstanding performances for both club and country. He made a memorable debut for the Ghana national team in a dominant 5-0 win over Chad and followed it up with a clean sheet against Madagascar during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. His form has not gone unnoticed, with Black Stars head coach Otto Addo naming him as Ghana’s new number one, ahead of established goalkeepers Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Jojo Wollacott.
Since donning the Hearts of Oak jersey, Asare has established himself as a commanding presence between the posts. His contributions have been instrumental to the club’s campaign in the ongoing 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season, where the team continues its push for the league title.
Speaking after signing the new deal, Asare expressed gratitude and renewed commitment to the club:
“I feel really excited to have been given the opportunity to play for one of the biggest clubs in world football. Hearts of Oak has lifted my image, and the only way I can repay the confidence they’ve shown in me is by extending my contract, playing my heart out, and working hard to achieve success with the team. I urge my teammates to stay focused and give their all as we strive for greatness together.”
With this extension, Hearts of Oak have secured the services of one of the nation’s brightest goalkeeping talents for the foreseeable future, signaling their intent to build a solid foundation around their captain
