Ministry Of Defence Begins Probe Into Z-9 Helicopter Crash

The Ministry of Defence has announced that the official Investigation Board tasked with probing the recent Z-9 helicopter crash has begun its work.

In a statement issued on Monday August 25 The Board, chaired by the National Security Coordinator, brings together experts from the Ghana Air Force and the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). To strengthen the process, visiting investigators from the United States Air Force are also offering technical advice and assistance.

According to the Ministry, the Board will not work in isolation but may invite other experts and institutions, both in Ghana and abroad, to provide further insights where necessary.

This development follows the tragic incident on August 6, 2025, which prompted the Defence Ministry to set up a preliminary investigation team to gather immediate evidence. That team is expected to submit its findings to the newly inaugurated Board today, forming the foundation of the inquiry.

The Investigation Board has been given a 30-day timeline to complete its work and present a full report.

Acting Minister for Defence, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, underscored the government’s commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in uncovering the cause of the crash.
