President John Dramani Mahama is set to deliver his much-anticipated 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament today, February 27.
The annual address, delivered in line with constitutional requirements, will provide an update on the government’s performance over the past year and outline its policy direction for the year ahead. It is expected to present a broad assessment of the country’s current condition while detailing plans to tackle ongoing challenges and accelerate national development.
Key sectors likely to feature prominently in the speech include the economy, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and energy. On the economic front, the President is anticipated to address concerns surrounding inflation, public debt management, revenue mobilisation, and job creation. With many Ghanaians still grappling with economic pressures, he is also expected to outline measures aimed at stabilising the macroeconomic environment, promoting growth, attracting investment, and easing the burden on households.
Infrastructure development is also expected to take centre stage. The President will likely highlight progress made in road construction, housing projects, the energy sector and water and sanitation initiatives, along with other public works undertaken across the country.
The address is expected to draw a distinguished audience, including lawmakers, government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, traditional leaders, and representatives of civil society organisations. As is customary, the State of the Nation Address will set the tone for national discourse and policymaking in the months ahead.
