President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to demand the highest standards of integrity, honesty, and accountability from all public officeholders, including himself.
Speaking passionately at the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving Service held at the forecourt of the State House in Accra today, July 1, President Mahama reminded the nation that leadership is not about privilege but about selfless service.
“We must hold those in authority, including myself, accountable to the highest standards of integrity and humility,” he said. “Public office is not a privilege for personal gain. It is a sacred trust bestowed by the people and a responsibility to serve all, especially the most vulnerable of us.”
President Mahama emphasized that no one, not even the President, is above the law. “Even the office of the president, which by the grace of God I now hold, is not above the law. Leadership must be grounded in justice, in honesty, and a reverence for God,” he declared. “If we want a just Ghana, we must be just in leadership.”
He urged Ghanaians to embrace values that promote national unity and sustainable development. According to him, true greatness as a nation is not found in wealth or power, but in the character of its people and leaders. “The virtues of courage, honesty, discipline, sacrifice, and compassion are what we measure the greatness of any nation by,” President Mahama noted.
The President’s remarks come at a time when many citizens are calling for greater transparency and responsibility in public service. His message serves as a reminder that governance must always prioritize the needs of the people, especially the poor and marginalized.
As the country reflects on its progress and future, President Mahama’s call for accountability and justice resonates strongly, urging both leaders and ordinary citizens to work towards building a more honest and compassionate Ghana.
