President John Dramani Mahama has left Accra for New York to represent Ghana at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), which begins on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
The President is expected to take the global stage on Thursday, September 25, where he will deliver Ghana’s address to the Assembly. Beyond his official statement, President Mahama will also carry out his mandate as the African Union’s Champion for Financial Institutions by hosting two high-level side events focused on Africa’s economic future.
While in New York, President Mahama’s itinerary is filled with crucial engagements. He will meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, hold bilateral talks with various world leaders, and interact with global partners, including the President of the Rockefeller Foundation. A symbolic highlight of his visit will be his appearance at NASDAQ, where he is expected to ring the closing bell, an unprecedented moment for a Ghanaian leader. He will also address the US-Africa Chamber of Commerce, reinforcing Ghana’s commitment to trade, investment, and partnerships.
The First Lady, Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama, is also accompanying the President and will play an active role during the week. She will participate in events organised by the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) and deliver a keynote address at a World Vision International prayer service dedicated to children.
President Mahama is travelling with a strong delegation made up of senior government officials and advisors. Among them are Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Executive Secretary Dr. Callistus Mahama, Special Aide and Presidential Advisor Joyce Bawah Mogtari, and Deputy Chief of Staff (Finance and Administration) Nana Oye Bampoe Addo. The team also includes Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Trade Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Presidential Spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu, and Simon Madjie, Chief Executive of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre.
President Mahama and his delegation are scheduled to return to Ghana on September 30, 2025.
