Monday, September 22, Declared Public Holiday in Observance of Founder’s Day.

The Ministry of the Interior has officially announced that Monday, 22nd September 2025, will be observed as an additional public holiday across Ghana.

This follows the commemoration of Founder’s Day, which falls on Sunday, 21st September 2025. Since the day coincides with a weekend, His Excellency the President of the Republic, by Executive Instrument (E.I.), has declared the following Monday as a holiday in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601), as amended.

The notice, signed by the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, emphasized that the day should be observed nationwide.

Founder’s Day is marked annually in honour of the late Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President, whose leadership and vision laid the foundation for the country’s independence and the broader African liberation struggle. The day serves as a time for reflection on Ghana’s journey towards freedom, unity, and development.

As a result, all Ghanaians are encouraged to take note of the adjustment and observe the holiday accordingly.
