University of Ghana Suspends Social Gatherings Amid COVID-19 Resurgence

The University of Ghana has announced the immediate suspension of all social gatherings on campus due to a resurgence of COVID-19 cases.

In a statement issued by the Office of Student Affairs on Wednesday, June 25, the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Rosina I. Kyerematen, explained that the directive affects all student-organized events, including those by the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG), the Students’ Representative Council (SRC), Junior Common Rooms (JCRs), as well as departmental and school associations.

“Due to the resurgence of COVID-19 cases on the University of Ghana campus, it has become necessary to suspend all social gatherings with immediate effect,” the statement said.

This suspension also extends to association week celebrations and other related activities until further notice. According to Professor Kyerematen, the decision is a proactive step aimed at protecting the university community from potential outbreaks.

“These measures have become necessary to safeguard the health and well-being of the University community,” she emphasized.

The university is urging all students and student bodies to comply fully with the directive to ensure the safety of everyone on campus. The Office of Student Affairs expressed gratitude for the expected cooperation, adding that updates will be provided as the situation evolves.
